This is the sleeping cabin we built at our house on Lake of Bays.

We think sleeping cabins are a great way to add capacity and function to existing cottages. In essence, these structures are compact, self contained little houses for fiends and guests (or a place to stay while renovating).

Our design includes a bathroom, kitchenette, bedroom and loft space. It incorporates state of the art building assemblies that we have designed and perfected. It is heated, cooled and mechanically ventilated just like a house. In fact, the design of our sleeping cabin can be modified easily to become a fully functional, highly energy efficient compact house.

We set out to build something that immediately evoked a vintage cottage feeling. Our trademark cedar bevel siding and 2 over 2 windows set the tone on the exterior. On the interior, we use handmade materials, natural tones and simple detailing to reinforce the theme. In order to get the details right, we milled all of the trim, made the doors by hand, and installed old school, site finished flooring. The result is exactly what we were looking for.

We think this design offers a perfect balance of guest accommodation, comfort and harmony with the surroundings.
